Career Development
At Scudder Law Firm, we are committed to providing a challenging and rewarding career experience. We view our people as the future of the organization and not as assets to be churned. With that perspective, we encourage associate involvement in a broad range of experiences to gain early exposure to the "big picture." We also promote early client contact, continuing legal education, and exposure to client-industry events. Our normal partnership track for associates is six full calendar years.
Compensation Philosophy
Our compensation philosophy is linked to our business philosophy. We believe we succeed by attracting and retaining the best possible personnel. A great team allows us to provide the proactive, high-quality service required by our nationwide clients for their sophisticated business transactions. To attract the best people, we offer leading compensation packages, generous benefits, and opportunities for career development. Summer Associate Program and Compensation
Scudder Law Firm's summer program offers to a select group of top students from across the country a high level of exposure to a sophisticated transactional practice in a collegial and interactive environment. We afford our summer associates a realistic view of the firm, rather than focusing excessively on social and recreational activities. This means meaningful projects, contact with clients and senior lawyers, significant interaction with transaction teams, and occasional opportunities for business travel.
If you want a summer in the library writing memos, Scudder Law Firm is not for you. Over the past several summers, our summer associates have been involved in the following types of projects:
- Drafting acquisition-related documents
- Assisting in valuations of acquisition targets
- Preparing for and attending public company board meetings
- Drafting SEC reports for companies and insiders
- Conducting corporate governance analysis
- Assisting in public offering and acquisition due diligence
- Participating in real estate transactions
- Traveling to client locations around the country
In addition to providing interesting work, we promote a positive experience through an open-door policy, matching summer associates with an attorney mentor, occasional firm social events, and opportunities for client interaction.
As with our attorneys, we offer our summer associates competitive compensation. For 2010, we expect the following compensation:
|
Summer 2010
|
|
Students who have completed two years of law school
|
$1,400/week
|
Students who have completed one year of law school
|
$1,200/week
|
We expect to hire between two and four summer associates, including a mix of first and second year applicants. Undergraduate business course experience is not required, but most 2L students should have taken corporations and one or more other business courses beyond property and contracts.
Lateral Attorneys
Lateral attorneys have contributed significantly to the growth and development of our firm. We are always interested in talking with attorneys who have superior academic performance records and excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills. We most commonly seek candidates with two to five years of experience and prefer expertise in our practice areas.
Other Professionals
At Scudder Law Firm, we appreciate the value of all of our colleagues.
